The Carbine Club NT is a not-for-profit membership group bound together by sport and good fellowship. Amongst its activities, the Club provides financial support for individuals and organisations in the sporting community that need assistance .

Members of The Carbine Club are bonded by a couple of simple affections: for sport and good fellowship. It has always been that way. The Club’s name honours a racehorse, one of the greatest and bravest the nation has ever known. But the spirit of The Carbine Club extends far beyond the boundaries of the turf, and even of championship. It is a spirit which celebrates sporting endeavour … and thus recognises that winning is important, but grace and courage also matter.

We hold events for our members and their guests throughout the year where we endeavour to raise funds which we use to support the sporting community. Grants are made to various organisations and individual athletes to support them to strive for sporting excellence and achieve their goals. Over the years we have seen marked improvements in personal development and performance levels and significant achievement in both individual and team events. Many young athletes supported by the Club have gone on to participate in their chosen sports at an elite level and represent Australia at the Olympic level. We will continue to work closely with these and other sporting organisations, in the support of young athletes.

We have been proudly supporting sports people and organisations in the Northern Territory for over 30 years, and in that time have supported more than 25 different sports.

Carbine NT recently sponsored young Judo participant, Alannah Joyce. Alannah’s mum Rachael told us that without Carbine‘s generous donation she would not have been able to attend all events in the National Series.

At the Melbourne International Open held the second week in March 2022 Alannah competed in the U70kg class and achieved a Silver Medal in the Cadets section, a Bronze Medal in the Junior Womens section, and a Silver Medal in the Senior Womens Section. This followed on from her performance at the Sydney International Open a couple of weeks earlier, where she achieved a Silver Medal in the Cadets section, a Silver Medal in the Junior Womens section, and a Gold Medal in the Senior Womens section.

No doubt she is a rising star in Womens Judo in Australia. Well done Alannah.

Tom O’Neill-Thorn was the youngest ever Roller to compete in a world championship when he represented Australia at the 2014 IWBF World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Incheon, South Korea.

Tom first got involved in wheelchair basketball at the age of nine.

In his breakout NWBL season he averaged 17.1 points per game for the Queensland Spinning Bullets and in 2013 he led the Australian Spinners to a podium finish at the IWBF U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Adana, Turkey.

The 2015 Northern Territory Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Tom was accepted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program to help him achieve selection for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Making his Games debut, Tom and the Rollers were eliminated from gold medal contention in a 23-point loss to Great Britain in the quarter finals.

At his second Games at Tokyo 2020, The Rollers improved on their sixth-place finish at Rio 2016, beating Turkey in their final match to secure fifth place.

In his spare time Tom referees wheelchair and able-bodied basketball games, and looks forward to one day helping other young athletes with a disability to pursue their dreams.

Carbine NT has been supporting Tom to achieve his goals since 2011.
